In their luxurious chess sets, Italfama’s artisans reference famous historical figures. This time, the inspiration was Louis XIV the Great — the Sun King, King of France. When he ascended the throne, the Thirty Years’ War was still ongoing. After a period of peace, Louis XIV launched a devolutive war against Spain. King Louis XIV died in 1715, leaving behind a grand, modernized state with centralized, absolutist royal power.
How this product was made
The entire table was crafted using the lost-wax casting method (cire perdue), known since ancient times. This technique involves creating a wax prototype, which is then coated with a specially prepared plaster mold. The interior is filled with liquid metal (in this case, genuine bronze), replacing the original wax form.
