A member of the group of painters known as the Scottish Colourists, Samuel Peploe was renowned for his still life paintings. The “Pink Roses, Chinese Vase” was painted when Peploe was experimenting with areas of vivid colours. He emphasized differences between objects with dark lines and believed that each plane should be painted in a different colour.
