The Italian manufacturer Coltelleri Saladini produces kitchen knives with forged blades. Each product features an engraved manufacturer logo, which serves as a mark of authenticity and quality guarantee.

The marking is done during the craft stage, before the blade is hardened.

Saladini is very selective in choosing steel – mainly using the highest quality heat-treated stainless steel with high or 100% carbon content.

For blade production, Saladini uses two main processes: forging and quenching.

Forging is used to create knife blades, cigar cutters, and certain lines of table knives. These blades are cut from steel sheets, with thickness depending on the intended use of the knife.

The most complex process involves forging blades by hammer and anvil, which are made for kitchen and table knives as well as collector’s items. Manual forging allows for shaping the blades, handles, and bolsters, which are then assembled into the handle.

After tempering, both types of blades undergo hardening and annealing in heat treatment, which, depending on the steel composition, determines the proper hardness for an optimal cutting edge.

Saladini’s tradition dates back to the 15th century – when the first “Master Knifemakers” published its statutes. These included goals for protection and a plan for the production and trade of knives.
