Company History

Both founders, Luciano and Marilena Tellatin, started their careers in the pottery industry at just sixteen years old and decided to establish their own company after years working as employees in two different antique factories. In a garage at their home, then in a shed, in 1982, the founders created a story that continues to this day. Deep passion and dedication are the elements through which the founders lead the brand, supported by young entrepreneurship — their son Alberto. He joined the company in 2000 after earning a teaching degree from the Art Institute of Nove: representing the future of a brand that still has much to offer clients and partners.

Over 30 years of experience, a luxury collection, harmony of forms, respect for work that is primarily craftsmanship and ancient labor, and ultimately, endless investment in the artisanal heritage of antique Nove forms: these are the qualities that make Ceramiche ML exceptionally unique, dynamic, respectful of ancient pottery traditions, yet enthusiastic about the future.

The place where everything happens is located in the province of Vicenza. This location has been recognized as one of the best examples of Italian ceramic tradition since the sixteenth century: a land enriched with artisanal knowledge, artists, sculptors, and ancient factories known worldwide. The Nove and Bassano regions are full of old manufactories whose work contributed to building the fame of the ceramics district, decorating homes’ furniture around the world.

The history of this place tells of a very long tradition rooted in the 17th century, and its fortune is due to numerous factors: the presence of underground plastic clay, “lottame” (a limestone rich in mineral silica), kaolin, and the ability to use the Brenta River for transporting finished products and wood for kilns, as well as powering water mills. These are used for mixing clay and grinding pebbles found at the riverbed.

Another factor fostering the birth of an exclusive ceramic tradition in this region was the Venetian Senate decree. In fact, in the 17th century, the growing and increasingly widespread demand for fine ceramics in China prompted Dutch ceramists to imitate these works, flooding the Venice market with their products. As a result, in 1728, the Venetian Senate decided to increase domestic production through tax incentives for those producing porcelain and improving majolica production, thus managing the birth of the ceramics district in Nove.

The production area of the district still focuses on the municipalities of Nove and Bassano, surrounded by a dense network of companies that have contributed to the region’s worldwide reputation for excellence and uniqueness, features that cannot be found elsewhere in Italy.
