Description
Montegrappa proudly presents a pen resulting from one of the most ambitious projects in its distinguished history. Based on collaboration with one of the greatest authorities in the field of human intellect – neurology professor Richard Restak – the The Brain Pen was created. This is the name of the new work by the Italian manufacturer, and it is the result of a long partnership with Professor Restak, author of over 20 books about the human brain. Among his many esteemed positions are professorship at George Washington University Medical School and residencies at Mount Sinai Hospital, Georgetown University Hospital, and George Washington University Hospital.
To create a pen that reflects the complexity of the organ it is dedicated to, Montegrappa’s designers drew inspiration directly from the brain. The connection between the brain and the pen, which exists in the process and art of writing as an extension of human ability to express oneself through the use of the brain, prompted Montegrappa to illustrate this direct intellectual and physical link. This special relationship is symbolically represented by the contrast between the fundamental components of the pen’s construction, paralleling the human body: the cap is intricate and complex like the human organ of reason, while the body is simple, akin to the human form.
The cross-section of the brain, based on an ancient illustration, adorns the top of the cap. Its surface depicts neural ganglia, while the clip takes the form of the spinal cord. The pen features a spring mechanism, and the tip of the clip is lacquered in red or blue, distinguishing the fountain pen from the ballpoint pen. The nib of the fountain pen is engraved with a seahorse image, referencing the hippocampus, a key component of the human brain and brains of other vertebrates. The hippocampus plays an important role in transferring information from short-term to long-term memory and in spatial orientation.
Montegrappa is known for producing exclusive creations of the highest quality, which express so many feelings through the simple act of writing.
