Combining gold paint, swirling threads, and intricate details, Water Snakes by Gustav Klimt are typical of the artist's “Golden Phase.” It was only the allegorical title of the work, depicting two naked lesbians embracing, that made the painting acceptable to Klimt’s contemporaries.
