Description
Little Treasures, CLASSIC COLLECTION FLAME TREE has been selected to create a stunning and timeless home library. Each exquisite gift edition features luxurious cover finishes, ribbon markers, deluxe inserts, and gilded edges. Accompanying the full text is a Victorian and literary terminology glossary created for the modern reader.
Dickens' characters, from orphan Pip, Miss Haversham, and Estella to the aptly named Magwitch, guide the reader through Victorian society torn apart by social woes and misplaced ambitions. Pip, a blacksmith's apprentice, encounters and helps the escaped convict Magwitch, who later repays the boy with a secret fortune. Pip mistakenly interprets the source of his elevation, believing it comes from Miss Haversham's upper class and her cold daughter, whom he adores. His naive awareness is revealed throughout as Estella's disdain for Pip causes him to try even harder, to the detriment of good people like Joe Gargery and Mrs. Joe, who raised him in poverty in a forge. Ultimately, Miss Haversham perishes in a fire, and Magwitch dies in prison, leaving a disappointed Pip without his fortune. Everything is resolved when he finally wins Estella's heart.
