As early as the Stone Age, their images decorated cave interiors. Deity figures were depicted on horses to emphasize their strength and power. Often, fragments of horse bodies were also incorporated into depictions of gods. In Greek mythology, the winged horse Pegasus served Zeus, symbolizing his authority. For his devotion to his master, the god of Heaven and Earth, he carried him into the sky, creating the constellation Pegasus.
The Graf von Faber-Castell company, inspired by the timeless beauty of these majestic animals and their unbridled freedom, created a new, truly exceptional Pen of the Year 2009, whose unique body is made from woven horsehair – an unusual material, now almost unheard of.
To craft the delicate form of the Pen of the Year 2009 body, horsehair was specially selected for its structure, color, and thickness. Then, 70 strands of hair underwent a meticulous weaving process. Strand by strand, a subtle wavy texture was created on the body, with varied structure and contrasting color, forming a perfect composition with platinum finishes.
Each Pen of the Year 2009 is a unique work of art. For the most passionate collectors, the Graf von Faber-Castell company offers a custom-made option to produce the Pen of the Year 2009 using horsehair from their own horse's tail.
The craftsmanship and individual characteristics of each strand forming the body’s texture make every Pen of the Year 2009 exceptional and one-of-a-kind.
The entire piece is complemented by a handcrafted, two-tone 18-karat gold steel nib. The platinum-plated cap top protects the filling mechanism, on which the individual number of each Pen of the Year is engraved. An elegant, resilient clip also deserves mention.
The Pen of the Year 2009 is presented in an exclusive wooden box, accompanied by a beautifully prepared informational brochure and a certificate of authenticity. The certificate bears the personal signature of Dorit Berger – the only specialist in Germany still hand-weaving horsehair – and an attestation confirming the highest quality of the materials used.
