Fortis is a watch brand established in 1912 in Grenchen, Switzerland. From its early years, Fortis has been renowned for its legendary Swiss precision and technical mastery. This has led to its involvement in space missions and aviation flights—including record-breaking ones.
Fortis gained fame as the first company in the world to produce "wristwatches." It is also known for official support of pilots and astronauts. Fortis watches are part of the official equipment for space missions.
1937 - Fortis releases its first chronograph to the market.
1943 - Fortis introduces the first "hermetically sealed automatic watch," now commonly known as a waterproof watch.
1954 - Fortis manufactures and sells alarm watches worldwide.
1994 - Fortis supports the EUROMIR 1 space mission. Fortis watches are the first not only on spacecraft but also in outer space.
1995 - Fortis sets a world record—at 100,000 feet above ground, on the wrists of aviation record holders Alexander Garnajev and Alexander Parringaux.
