Description
Modern Giallo, Everson's homage to stylish Italian crime thrillers. Someone is murdering the Songbirds. When Eve Springer arrives in Belgium to study under world-renowned Prof. Ernest Von Klein at the exclusive music conservatory The Eyrie, it is a lifelong dream come true. But this dream will soon turn into a nightmare.
When the school piano prodigy is strangled with a piano wire, the only clue for the killer is a grainy photo of the victim in her last moments, with her mouth wide open and screaming, posted on her own Facebook account alongside a classical music video. What does it mean? Eve soon takes the place of the girl as the star student of the enclave, in line for a coveted scholarship and a new member of the famous jazz band, The Songbirds.
When Eve is drugged, and another Songbird is murdered at a campus party, she suddenly finds herself on the suspect list. Another photo has been posted online of the victim in her final moments, and this time Eve is sure that her hands are around the girl’s throat… and that they belong to her! Could she have killed the girl while under the influence of what someone slipped into her drink? The police and others in Eagle are suspicious; the murders began when she arrived. Her new boyfriend Richard insists he can’t be the killer. But who would want the Songbirds dead? One of the remaining Songbirds, like Gianna, the malicious saxophonist who seems to hate everyone? Or Philip, the terrifying building supervisor and occasional night watchman? Or perhaps Prof. Von Klein himself, who seems very handy with a camera and has a secret locked room behind his office, where the lights always seem to be on after dark?
Whoever it is, Eve knows she must figure it out. Because when a dead canary is left as a bloody message on her piano keys, she realizes her own life may be in deadly danger.
