Description

After taking over the D50 project from Lancia, Enzo Ferrari was busy transforming the newly acquired Grand Prix competitor into a “trump card,” and Scuderia Ferrari was heading into a very successful 1956 season. You are looking at the standard version of the newly restored Ferrari D50 with a short nose. CMC will also offer the long-nose version, which won the German Grand Prix in 1956 held at the Nürburgring circuit.

Return to glory and fame

Tragic loss of Ascari shortly after the Monaco GP in 1955 meant, besides rapidly worsening finances, the early end of the ambitious F1 project of Scuderia Lancia with its D50. It also marked the end of Gianni Lancia’s dream to remain competitive, if not victorious, at the highest level of motorsport.

On July 26, 1955, Lancia handed over the plans for the D50, the equipment, manufacturing tools, and many parts to its most eager competitor, Scuderia Ferrari.

Ferrari introduced the D50 restoration. It was filled with magnificent renovations, bringing the new D50 onto the path destined for triumph.

Here are the key improvements:

1. The two panniers located in the middle of the Lancia D50 were replaced with a single fuel tank placed directly behind the driver’s seat.
2. The bodywork was expanded to encompass two separate spaces formerly occupied by the pannier tanks, and a more integrated body shell provided better aerodynamics.
3. At the bottom, behind the panels on the left and right sides, there were two bundles of exhaust pipes, each with four pipes bent to protrude in front of the rear wheel, emitting both exhaust fumes and the characteristic Ferrari roar.
4. Maximum power was increased to 265 HP, with further improvements possible through modifications to the cylinder heads, valve control, crankshaft, and pistons.
5. Two oil coolers between the pannier tanks and the bodywork were abandoned in favor of a tubular oil cooler installed in front of the radiator.
6. Modifications to the tubular frame and suspension systems were implemented, including raising the rear transverse spring to a higher horizontal position.
7. The tires were changed from Pirelli to Englebert.

Ultimately, with five Grand Prix wins, Juan Manuel Fangio was able to conclude the 1956 season, securing his fourth World Drivers’ Championship.

Information about Classic Model Cars (CMC)

Stylish products combined with the highest quality finish give us the hallmark of the German brand Classic Model Cars. It’s a true homage to handcrafted products that impress with their unique elegance and luxury.

CMC is one of the leading brands producing miniature vintage cars. The company creates classic and collector’s models using authentic materials and fabrics.

Since 1995, CMC has had its own manufacturing facility with highly qualified engineers and staff in China. The result of months of research is a variety of classic car models, assembled by hand from over 1800 individual parts. The manufactory uses high-quality materials to fully preserve the “faithfulness to the original” of each vehicle model.

The manufactory focuses on all major and popular collector scales: 1:12, 1:18, 1:24, 1:43. The first model produced by the company was in 1:24 scale — the iconic Mercedes-Benz SSK from 1930. Built in 1995, it received many prestigious awards.

Every single element is carefully assembled by hand. Instruments on the dashboard are mounted separately. Seats are covered with fabric or leather. The floor lining is installed inside and in the trunk. The smallest details are faithfully replicated according to the original plans of each vehicle.
