The production of the black-blue striped barrel is complex; the material is originally made from cellulose acetate in multiple stages according to a recipe specially developed for Pelikan. It is bent, polished, and then cut with a diamond to the contour. Palladium-plated rings on the filling mechanism and the cap are precisely fitted, creating an almost seamless transition between materials before polishing to a high gloss.
Pelikan's origins date back to chemist Carl Hornemann, who on April 28, 1838, presented his clients with an offer for oil paints, watercolors, and the so-called Pelikan archive – the foundation of the company's production line, from which the well-known global brand developed. The German manufacturer specializes in the production of exclusive writing instruments.
Decades of experience, specially trained staff, and the highest attention to detail at every stage of the manufacturing process ensure that each product is solidly made and unique. Depending on the model, the nibs are made from 14 or 18-karat gold. They are also sometimes rhodium-plated to achieve a silver shine. The decoration on the nib is typical for each model.
