Mabel Allington Royds (1874–1941) was born in Bedford. At the age of 15, she received a scholarship at the Royal Academy in London, but she chose to study at Slade. She is renowned for her colorful woodcuts of flowers, biblical scenes, and Native American motifs, and her technique is inspired by Japanese woodblock prints.
