Description

The Belle Epoque Haute Couture coat design created with ink and watercolor on fashion plate paper from the early 20th century. It comes from a collection of 15 patterns, some of which are dated 1911 and feature the monogram initials H.B.

Noteworthy is the elegance of these incredible silhouettes, emphasized by the bold and confident traits of the fashion designer, a professional of the era. The drawing originates from a private Milanese residence and is in perfect condition. The sheet is unmounted and unframed.

In fashion design, new projects are first presented as hand-drawn sketches before being cut and sewn. The fashion designer begins by creating a figure—a female image—that accurately depicts the shape of the wearer, often posed, perhaps placed in a real context, such as this figure leaning against a column, to illustrate details of the soft-lined coat decorated with geometric asymmetries, paired with shoes, a cane, and a hat.

These sophisticated designs in Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, as well as very rare and collectible pieces, are perfect for studio decor. They reflect an elegant, prosperous world full of perspectives and help recreate the fascinating transformations in fashion of that era, where women's style—an expression of emancipation—adapted to more functional and sporty clothing.

Stylish antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess distinct character and soul. It is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. Many different styles exist in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

There are many styles characteristic of antique furniture, but a few stand out as most significant. Eclectic furniture relates to the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Early in the century, this evolved into neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles transitioned into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th centuries, originating from Napoleon’s reign. This style features strong influences from Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable and interesting are antique pieces in Rococo style and Louis XV. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to impress with splendor. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how the Baroque style has significantly influenced modern classic furniture, which often closely resembles the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a major mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often finished with brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and relief carvings. These products were quite distinctive but introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of cupboards and other chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production varied by country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when seeking an exclusive antique piece suited for your interior.

The most important aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. And this is ultimately crucial from the buyer's perspective, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
