Description

The Belle Epoque Haute Couture coat design created with ink and watercolor on fashion plate paper from the early 20th century. It comes from a collection of 15 patterns, some of which are dated 1911 and feature the monogram initials H.B.

Noteworthy is the elegance of these incredible silhouettes, emphasized by the bold and confident traits of the fashion designer, a professional of the era. The drawing originates from a private Milanese residence and is in perfect condition. The sheet is unmounted and unframed.

In fashion design, new projects are first presented as hand-drawn sketches before being cut and sewn. The fashion designer begins by creating a figure, a female image, which reproduces the shape of the wearer—realistically depicted, perhaps posed, possibly placed in a real context, such as this figure leaning against a column, to illustrate the soft-lined coat decorated with geometric asymmetries, paired with shoes, a cane, and a hat.

These refined Art Nouveau and Art Deco style designs, as well as very rare and collectible pieces, are perfect for studio decor. They reflect an elegant, prosperous world full of perspectives and help recreate the fascinating transformations in fashion of that time, where women's style, reflecting emancipation, adapted to more functional and sporty clothing.

Stylish antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Among the various styles of antique furniture, a few stand out as particularly significant. Eclectic furniture originates from the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Early in the century, this evolved into neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe, and finally the Victorian English style. By the end of the century, these styles transitioned into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th centuries, inspired by Napoleon’s reign, with strong references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—features highly ornate furniture designed to dazzle with splendor and luxury. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can see how the Baroque style has significantly influenced modern classical furniture, which often resembles the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a profound mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and solid, often finished with brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and relief carvings. These pieces were quite distinctive but introduced new possibilities, especially in the construction of cabinets and chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion’s paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its unique character—an essential consideration when selecting exclusive antique pieces for your interior.

The most important aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. And this is ultimately crucial from the buyer's perspective, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
