We are pleased to present a chess set made of Erica wood, featuring a special compartment for the pieces and other game accessories, as well as brass designer figures.
Erica, a genus from the heather family, includes about 600 species mainly found in the upland and mountainous regions of Africa, especially in its southern part, and sparsely in Europe (Mediterranean region) - a few species. Small trees, shrubs, and small bushes with tiny, needle-like leaves and small, bell-shaped flowers.
Heathers play a significant role in the high-altitude flora of Africa, forming the so-called heather layer together with other shrubs, and are also part of the Mediterranean maquis and South African fynbos formations. Woody heathers have local economic importance (wood), and the underground parts of some species are used to make pipes. In Poland, only one species grows wild - bog heather (Erica tetralix), which is rare in the northern part of the country.
