Tellur displays the Earth's orbit around the Sun once a year, with the Earth rotating on its axis every 24 hours. At the same time, the Moon orbits the Earth every 29 and a half days, rotating once on its own axis so that the different phases of the Moon can be observed from Earth. The Earth passes through 12 zodiac signs, months, and days, which can be read on a flat dial. An 8-day Westminster chime mechanism strikes on four polished bells. Features include a seconds power flow, mainspring stabilizer, an 11-jewel Swiss movement, polished plates, and automatic shutdown of the striking mechanism at night. Carved representations of the 12 zodiac signs are displayed on an openwork, polished rosette. There are also carved representations of the calendar month and day. A rotating tellurium arm with hands depicts the sun, moon, and earth.
