Description
The cap features a friend of Virgil and Dante standing before the entrance to the door, where there is an inscription in Italian: “Lasciate ogni speranza voi ch' entrate” (English): “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.” This is the first famous line from the Divine Comedy, and on the edge of the cap, there is the final line, when they exit hell and return to earth (Italian): “E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stele” (English): “And then we emerged to see the stars again.”
On the body, characteristic of a conical shape, there is a depiction of the 9 circles of hell, with Lucifer supporting them at the bottom, also serving as a pen holder.
