Description
The cap features an image of Virgil's and Dante's friend standing before the door, where an Italian inscription reads: “Lasciate ogni speranza voi ch' entrate” (English: “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here”). This is the first famous line from Dante's Divine Comedy. On the edge of the cap, there is a final phrase, depicting their exit from hell and return to earth (Italian): “E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stele” (English: “And then we emerged to see the stars again”). The body of the pen, characterized by a conical shape, displays the nine circles of hell, supporting Lucifer at the bottom, who also functions as a pen holder.
