Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few stand out as the most important. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the Biedermeier style. Early in the century, this includes neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from Napoleon’s reign. It features significant influences from Roman and Greek decorative motifs.
Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco' meaning 'irregularly developed pearl,' includes highly ornate furniture designed to impress with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which often resembles the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using dark stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These pieces were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and classical themes were popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common features in Renaissance style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such furniture inspired by Italian and French craftsmen, reflecting admiration and respect for the history of beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its unique character. This is especially crucial when searching for luxurious antique pieces suitable for your interior.
The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to the buyer, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We also have experts in art appraisal, history, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
