The palladium-coated decorative elements give the Souverän 405 Black-Silver a distinctive, unique shine. The black parts are made from high-quality, self-polishing black resin. The palladium-coated rings are so delicately integrated between the materials that the transitions between them are almost seamless. The series is offered as a fountain pen with a differential piston mechanism, rollerball pen, ballpoint pen, and mechanical pencil with a push-button mechanism.

The origins of Pelikan date back to chemist Carl Hornemann, who on April 28, 1838, presented his clients with an offer for oil paints, watercolors, and the so-called Pelikan archive—this was the foundation of the company's production line, from which the globally recognized brand developed. The German manufacturer specializes in producing exclusive writing instruments.

Depending on the model, the nibs are made from 14 or 18-carat gold. Additionally, they are sometimes rhodium-plated to achieve a silver sheen. The decoration on the nib is typical for each model.
