The first model of fountain pen honoring the Damask pattern of ornamentation is the “Toledo” pen from 1931. Desired by many and regarded as a work of art, it was produced for decades in an almost unchanged form. Currently, the richly decorated cylinder is made from a single piece of 925 silver. After numerous preparatory treatments, a decorative motif is applied using a thin layer of gold. The final stage of ornamentation is hand-engraving, giving it a unique appearance. The Toledo, crafted in Germany, is one of a kind. Due to the time-consuming manufacturing process, only 50 pens can be produced each month. Each one is a craftsmanship masterpiece and a piece of history.
The origins of Pelikan date back to chemist Carl Hornemann, who on April 28, 1838, presented his clients with an offer for oil paints, watercolors, and the so-called Pelikan archive – the foundation of the company's production line, from which the well-known global brand developed. The German manufacturer specializes in producing luxury writing instruments.
Decades of experience, specially trained staff, and the highest attention to detail at every stage of the production process ensure that each product is solidly made and unique. Depending on the model, the nibs are made from 14 or 18-karat gold. They are also sometimes rhodium-plated to achieve a silver shine. The decoration on the nib is typical for each model.
German Pelikan writing instruments with their characteristic resin bodies and a clip shaped like a pelican’s beak have become symbols of the finest taste and sophistication over the years.
