The times we live in are marked by increased consumption. Therefore, the everyday items we use have no value to us other than functional. Over the years, we often do not show the proper sentiment towards them, replacing them with newer models.
The philosophy of Berti Knives, a manufacturer of exclusive knives for various uses, differs from this trend. Founded in 1895 by David Berti, this small workshop seems to be completely detached from the trends that have taken place worldwide over the years. Its core idea is a commitment to tradition, which is still cultivated by the fourth generation of experienced artisans.
The founders firmly reject the idea of mass production by random labor, which they believe would lead to the loss of the identity of the knives produced. For this reason, their company's philosophy places special emphasis on the employed staff. However, this Italian family is not closed to change. Changes are very welcome, provided they bring elements consistent with the existing philosophy and can withstand years of quality testing.
Unlike others, the various stages of knife manufacturing are not handled by specialized sections of artisans, but are often performed from start to finish by the same person. Thanks to this practice, each blade is completely unique.
The production uses the highest quality materials — blades are made of steel, while handles are made from materials such as buffalo horn, bison horn, deer antler, or 'bosso' wood.
The owners encourage that their products, although intended for everyday use, be treated with proper respect, which guarantees their durability for many years. Each one is a small, unique artifact.
