This game was already known in ancient times! In Europe, it was mainly played around the Mediterranean Sea (also in Middle Eastern, North African, and Asia Minor countries).

It is a game for two players, each with 15 pawns that must be moved along triangles called lines in this game. The winner is the one who removes all their pawns from the board first. Triktrak is now a national game of Georgians, Armenians, Arabs, and Turks. The English name of this game - backgammon - originates from the 17th century and most likely comes from the word gamen meaning game: back game. It is also said that backgammon got its name because triktrak was often placed at the back of the chessboard (English: back).
