Trictrac (English backgammon) is a game designed for two players, each with 15 checkers that must be moved along triangles called lines in this game. The winner is the one who removes all their checkers from the board first. Backgammon is now a national game of Georgians, Armenians, Arabs, and Turks. The English name of this game – backgammon – dates back to the 17th century and most likely derives from the word gamen, meaning game: back game. It is also said that backgammon got its name because the trictrac was often placed at the back of the chessboard (English: back).
