German Watches for Men
The Dugena brand was founded in 1917 in Eisenach as a branch of the Swiss brand Alpina. The name is an abbreviation of the words "Deutsche Uhrenmacher-Genossenschaft Alpina" (German watchmakers' cooperative Alpina) and soon became a brand in its own right.
In 1927, Dugena's factories moved to Berlin and produced watches until 1930. During the immediate post-war period, the company was on the verge of liquidation. At that time, Dugena's headquarters were in East Berlin, which was occupied by the USSR.
Selling watches to the West proved to be very difficult, so in 1948, the company's headquarters were relocated to Darmstadt. Subsequently, Dugena benefited from the German economic miracle.
In the 1960s and 1970s, a breakthrough occurred, and Dugena successfully overcame the quartz revolution.
German reliability and quality proved to be a hit, and the company successfully sold its products across Germany, with 2,000 stores.
In mid-2009, the newly established "Nova Tempora Uhren und Schmuck GmbH" took over the business. Soon, Dugena will be reintroduced as an independent German company.
