We live in times marked by increased consumption. Therefore, the items we use every day hold no value for us other than their utility. Over the years, we often neglect the attention they deserve, replacing them with newer models.
The philosophy of Berti Knives, a manufacturer of exceptional knives for various purposes, differs from this approach. Founded in 1895 by David Berti, the family-owned workshop seems to be entirely independent of the trends that have dominated the world over the years. Its core guiding principle is a commitment to tradition, which is still cultivated by the fourth generation of these skilled artisans.
The founders strongly oppose the idea of mass production by unskilled labor, which they believe would lead to the loss of identity in the knives produced. For this reason, their company's philosophy places great emphasis on the employed personnel. However, this does not mean that this Italian family is closed to any changes. Changes are very welcome, provided they introduce elements consistent with the existing philosophy and can withstand years of quality testing.
Unlike others, the various stages of knife production are not handled by specialized sections of artisans but are often carried out from start to finish by the same person. Thanks to this practice, each blade is completely unique.
The production uses the highest quality materials — blades are made of steel, while handles are made from materials such as buffalo horn, bison horn, deer antler, and 'bosso' wood.
The owners encourage that their products, although intended for everyday use, be treated with proper respect, which guarantees their durability for many years. Each one is, after all, a small, unique work of art.
