Vasa – History:

Vasa is a Swedish galleon whose history is as fascinating as it is tragic. Built in the 17th century at the behest of King Gustavus Adolphus, it was meant to symbolize Sweden’s power. Unfortunately, during its maiden voyage, just minutes after leaving the Stockholm shipyard, Vasa listed and sank. The cause of the disaster was likely improper placement of the cannons, which heavily weighted one side. The ship rested on the Baltic Sea floor for over 330 years before being recovered and painstakingly conserved.

Today, Vasa is one of Sweden’s top tourist attractions. Displayed in a dedicated museum in Stockholm, it amazes visitors with its remarkable preservation.
