Description

Tabletop cabinet made of burl walnut with a sliding opening in the lower panel. The cap is pierced with elongated leaves (two of which are integrated). The glass panels at the front and sides are original.

This antique, 19th-century display cabinet is a small showcase, perfect for exhibiting a small sculpture, precious items, or collectibles. It is a table, as evidenced by the four legs, but can be transformed into a wall-mounted cabinet with a back panel featuring special hooks.

Central Italy, early 19th century.

Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that have a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, dominated by the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century. Everything was influenced by Napoleon's reign, which imposed a resemblance to Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles are also interesting and worth noting. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by very ornate furniture meant to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were chosen selectively to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style also had a significant impact. Flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, it left a lasting mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Many global brands now reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that each country had its own approach to furniture making, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when seeking exclusive antique pieces suitable for your interior.

The key to prestigious antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as many counterfeits circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We also have experts, including art appraisers, historians, and specialists from around the world, available to assist you.
