Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1868. In 1884, he began an apprenticeship with John Hutchinson and started attending evening classes at Glasgow School of Art. In 1889, he became an assistant architect at Honeyman and Keppie, and also enrolled at Glasgow School of Art. In 1890, he received a travel scholarship and toured Italy before settling into his profession. An outstanding architect, furniture designer, and painter, he was a pioneer of the Modernist movement in Scotland. Mackintosh’s works represent the peak of the British Arts and Crafts movement in Scotland and England. Unfortunately, Mackintosh passed away in London in 1928.
