Description
Brown salon lamp with antique embroidery. An important table lamp made from a central brown vase, with a baluster-shaped stem resting on a square base and two large side handles. The oval shade, crafted from red silk, is decorated with a hand-embroidered gold braid, inspired by liturgical vestments from the 18th century.
The bronze base dates from the 1950s, features a beautiful patina, is compatible with an E27 bulb (max. 100 W), and is in perfect condition.
Original antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior design. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of traditional and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century is associated with the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the Victorian English style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, characterized by significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate furniture designed to exude splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style also had a significant impact. Flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, it left a lasting mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and bulky, often using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and relief decorations. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands recreate such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that each country perceived furniture production differently, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when seeking a luxurious antique that fits your interior.
The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the buyer’s perspective, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
