They have a particular fondness for creating items in the Damascene style, referencing the extraordinary history of decorative armor embellishments dating back to ancient times.
It was precisely the inlaying of gold and silver into metals such as steel, copper, iron, or bronze that conferred prestige and distinction to these works.
Knowledge of Damascene steel reached Europe during the Crusades. Among European knights, legends quickly spread about swords made from this steel, capable of cutting candles in half without knocking them over, and of shattering stones and European swords.
Most of these legends were exaggerated, but Damascene steel indeed surpassed its European counterparts in quality at the time.
