We are firmly convinced that every one of our readers will agree with us that not all pens are created equal. It is entirely possible to purchase a standard product, whether online or in a brick-and-mortar store — and it will, with a high degree of probability, perform its intended task exceptionally effectively.
Nevertheless, if we dream of combining utilitarian qualities with an extraordinary appearance and exceptional craftsmanship, our search for the perfect product should begin with renowned manufacturers both domestically and internationally. One of them is Aurora, about whose history and products we would like to tell everyone interested in today’s post. We warmly invite you to read it!
How did it all start?
It can be said without a shadow of a doubt that Aurora has extensive experience in the industry, as the brand began operating in Turin in Italy in 1919. As you might guess, it started its activity just a year after the end of one of the greatest conflicts in history, World War I. That is why its founders chose an optimistic name, which in Italian means “dawn”. It was meant to symbolize hope for better times after a difficult period of war. The company was founded by Albe Steiner and Giampero Maria Bodino.
Thanks to their dedication and collaboration with globally renowned brands such as Pirelli, Cartier, and Dunhill, it was possible to establish an impeccable reputation and a leading position in the market of luxury pens. Initially, Aurora’s portfolio was quite limited, mainly consisting of eyedropper fountain pens and their fountain pen equivalents.
What distinguished them from the competition?
Primarily, the quality of craftsmanship, durability, and the materials used in the manufacturing process. It is enough to say that customers could become proud owners of products made from silver, gold, or their gilded variants. The high interest from consumers and positive reception of the products encouraged the owners to expand their offerings. Over the years, they included high-quality celluloid fountain pens, which became a key element of the Internazionale series.
The steadily increasing sales and growing popularity of pens inspired the owners to not limit themselves to Italy alone, but also to offer their products in other countries, including Switzerland, Spain, and Poland. At the same time, they did not rest on their laurels but continuously modernized and upgraded their products, ensuring their unique, elegant, and timeless appearance.
In the early 1960s, the rapidly developing company was acquired by the Verona family. Fortunately, however, the change of ownership did not lead to the company's downfall; on the contrary, it significantly accelerated its growth, and the company's portfolio expanded to include several new product lines. We are pleased to inform you that the brand is thriving even today, and there is no indication that this trend will reverse or weaken in the near future.
What… and for whom?
As one might easily guess, even the most standard Aurora pens and ballpoint pens are dedicated to affluent clients who find it insufficient that such a product simply writes and fulfills its basic function. It should also look exceptionally elegant, highlight the owner’s uniqueness, fit perfectly in the hand, and be highly durable, significantly delaying the need to replace it with a new one.
Manufacturers also make every effort to ensure their products are properly contoured, so they do not strain the writer’s wrist even when writing many pages daily. The resistance of such pens and ballpoint pens to adverse external conditions and mechanical damage is also important, as well as the uniqueness of their external coating, which often relies on the use of the highest quality precious metals.
We have already mentioned the rather high price of products from the Italian brand Aurora, which is certainly confirmed by the comparison prepared for our readers. The simplest and least complicated (yet still exquisite and eye-catching) pen from the Guiloche GT series will cost us just under three hundred zloty. However, if we dream of becoming the owner of an absolutely unique and one-of-a-kind item, we will need to prepare to spend from a few to even several dozen thousand zloty on this goal. An ideal example could be pens from the Optima series, which may cost us around two thousand zloty, or writing instruments from Riflesi, made from forged gold. In such cases, the consumer must be ready to pay just over thirty thousand zloty for their new acquisition. For this price, they receive timeless design, the highest quality materials, excellent functionality, and true beauty that standard products available in local stationery stores cannot guarantee.

Exceptional beauty at an exceptional price
The Aurora company also holds a sort of world record — it produced the most expensive pen in the world, valued by experts at around 1.3 million dollars, which is nearly five million zloty! What makes it so costly? Aurora Diamante, as this product is called, is a combination of elements made from pure platinum and gold, which are handcrafted in a workshop in Turin. Due to numerous embellishments and the unusual shape of the pen itself, each one is made after an order is placed, taking about two years to ensure perfect customization to the customer's expectations. The pens are personalized according to the buyer's requirements, can be made for left- or right-handed users, and feature a hidden ink reservoir, which will particularly appeal to those who write manually a significant number of pages every day.
The name of today’s described pen, however, did not come out of nowhere. Aurora Diamante features 1919 diamonds forming part of the casing and paying homage to the company's founding date. In total, these precious stones weigh nearly 30 carats, so it can be said without a shadow of a doubt that the quite high price, as well as the limited quantity of such pens, are fully justified.
If we cannot afford such an elaborate writing instrument but would like to address letters, keep notebooks, or create poetry with a top-tier product appreciated by customers worldwide, we can opt for somewhat cheaper alternatives from standard series. They will also work perfectly as exceptional occasional gifts, which can be used daily or serve as decorative elements in the home or office of the recipient. We are firmly convinced that every person interested in pens or writing instruments from the Italian Aurora brand will be able to find in the company’s extremely rich portfolio a product that fully meets their personal expectations and preferences… we have not the slightest doubt about that!
