For those who absolutely love surrounding themselves with high-quality items from Montegrappa, there is certainly no need for an introduction, as they are well aware that this company has over the years specialized in creating top-class pens, ballpoint pens, and other writing instruments characterized by attention to even the smallest details.
We know, however, that not all of our readers are familiar with the history and offer of the brand, so we decided to create this very article to bring them closer to it. We cordially invite you to read!
History of Montegrappa - how did it all start?
The history of this extraordinary company began in 1912, in the picturesque Italian town of Bassano del Grappa. A knowledgeable reader will quickly associate the name of this town with the brand… and they would be right, because it derives from the nearby mountain range, namely - Grappa Massif, whose peak is (unsurprisingly) Monte Grappa. The company started its operations just a few years before the outbreak of the First World War. Although this conflict did not spare Italy or the town where the company's headquarters were located, it turned out to have a positive impact on increasing brand awareness and further development. Why was that? Primarily because the writing instruments offered by Montegrappa (originally operating as a manufactory under the simpler name Elmo) were popular among soldiers stationed both in the town and its surroundings.

The twenties and thirties were a period for the company today known as Montegrappa, when it boldly began introducing beautifully crafted celluloid fountain pens to the domestic market. Interestingly, even then the division between products for mass consumers and for more demanding clients was already starting. The former were sold under the Elmo series, while those distinguished by the highest craftsmanship and the use of the best materials were assigned to the Montegrappa model series. It turned out that the company's offer found fertile ground, which not only encouraged its owners to expand the product portfolio but also to introduce various conveniences into their products. These include, for example, a special filling system for fountain pens, known today as piston filler, as well as the start of manufacturing products featuring transparent elements of the body that distinguished them from competitors.
With some difficulties the company had to face slightly after World War II, specifically in 1946, when a fire broke out in the town where the company operated, leading to the complete destruction of some of its buildings. Fortunately, this did not discourage the owners — they rebuilt the manufactory, quickly restoring its former glory.
It is worth mentioning here that Montegrappa is a company with long traditions. Since the 1950s, it has been run by members of the Aquila family, and its sale took place only in 2001, when it was sold for a substantial sum to the Richemont group. Interestingly, the period of external management was relatively short, lasting only until 2009, when the aforementioned family regained ownership of the well-performing enterprise.
Currently, Montegrappa focuses on what it does best — producing the highest quality pens for connoisseurs, which impress with their flawless craftsmanship and the use of materials such as ebonite, celluloid, gold, silver, and exquisite gemstones. Buyers can be 100% sure that they are acquiring a unique product, difficult to find among competitors. It is enough to say that the perfection of each pen’s craftsmanship has earned the company numerous fans, including prominent figures such as Sylvester Stallone, Naomi Campbell, Paulo Coelho, and the beloved and well-known Pope John Paul II. That’s why Montegrappa pens are now recognized worldwide.
Most Popular Montegrappa Products
Once we have briefly familiarized our readers with the history of the Montegrappa brand, it's time to introduce them to the company's current offerings. Just as many years ago, standard (though still crafted with great meticulousness) pens and ballpoint pens are part of the Elmo series. These can be purchased at a relatively affordable price from the customer's perspective, starting at around nine hundred złoty for the 01 Black model, and reaching up to about one and a half thousand złoty for a product with the charming name Ambiente Ocean. A series of fountain pens Montegrappa Extra 1930, featuring high-quality silver finish and a nib, which is made from 18-karat gold, is extremely popular among buyers. Regardless of the variant chosen (Black & White, Turtle Brown, or Mediterranean Blue), such a true work of writing art will cost us just over six thousand złoty.

Native accents in writing
Enthusiasts of native history who also wish to have a truly unique item in their home or office can consider purchasing the Roller Montegrappa Lech Wałęsa pen, inspired by the historic achievements of this great Pole, as well as marked with inscriptions and engravings reminiscent of the well-known “Solidarity”. The exclusivity of this writing instrument is enhanced by the fact that only seventy pieces were produced. This means that over time, it will continuously increase in value, becoming more and more rare and inaccessible to the general public as a limited series product. To acquire it for personal use or investment purposes, you will need to spend a significant amount, ranging from ten to even thirteen thousand złoty depending on the store.

A slightly cheaper, yet still inspired by Polish history, product is the Montegrappa Grunwald pen, engraved with bas-reliefs paying homage to a very important event for Poles, and equipped with a two-tone nib made from 18-karat gold. The larger production run makes it possible to become its proud owner for less than seven thousand złoty. In our opinion, this price is fully justified, as the pen not only looks spectacular but is also perfectly balanced, making writing with it an exceptionally enjoyable experience.
And something for movie buffs!
Both owners and artists from Montegrappa have not forgotten true fans of the series that recently broke all popularity records. Of course, we are talking about “Game of Thrones”, which gathered hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of viewers in front of TVs and computers worldwide. Designed for them, a limited series of pens was created, costing nearly twenty thousand złoty. What justifies such an expense? Primarily, the unique, timeless style strongly linked to the events of “Game of Thrones”. Again, the best materials were used, with 18-karat gold at the forefront. The exclusivity of this product is also evidenced by the fact that it was produced in a highly limited series, similar to the Lech Wałęsa pen, with only 300 pieces available.

Summary in a few words…

We hope that our today's article has managed to pique the interest of at least some of our readers in its products, or at least encouraged a small percentage of them to acquire one of their pens or ballpoint pens!
