Ancient golden frame

Ancient golden frame

We are pleased to present to you an antique frame made of linden wood.

An ancient gold frame carved in a horizontal linden wood with scrolls of large leaves; the depth of the pronounced scrolls is typical for cartouches, decorative motifs depicting leaves with curled, crumpled ends. This Lombard Baroque frame from the 17th century is actually a frieze, as it was created without a frame, now restored and probably originally used as a relic reliquary frame. The gilding is water-based with a red core preparation and remains in good condition despite minor defects.

The hand-carved rectangular frame consists of deep volutes and leaf-shaped decorations, with flat areas around the opening featuring delicate engraving and star-shaped etchings. Inside, it is centered by a shaped mirror. It is in good condition, aside from minor repairs to the upper curls. Two small curls were added, as highlighted in the gallery on the back photo, and the tip of a scroll in the right central part is missing. Repairs are consistent with 17th-century dating. It comes from private collections.
