Wooden oriental sculpture of a water buffalo with horns

Today we would like to present to you an oriental 19th-century buffalo sculpture.

Wooden Oriental Water Buffalo Sculpture with Horns, an ancient and fascinating animalistic figure of the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis), an important symbolic and utilitarian figure in Southeast Asian agriculture.

Made from solid wood, this 19th-century Asian folk art sculpture stands out with its impressive dimensions, measuring 63.5 x 60 x 85 cm. It is mounted on legs and features a beautiful patina. The absence of a tail and signs of wear, consistent with its late 19th-century origin, attest to its antiquity and authenticity.

The piece depicts a carved wooden water buffalo in a standing position. It has been restored with minimal adjustments to the horns and their mounts, as well as the legs and ears. A bronze bell hangs around the buffalo's neck, symbolizing its significance in rural life. The animal sculpture rests on long legs and is suitable for display on a table or on the floor, adding a touch of decorative charm to Asian folk art. It is a unique object for enthusiasts of ethnic art and traditional Eastern cultural artifacts. Originates from a private collection in Lombardy.
