Today we are pleased to present to you an original oil painting from the 17th century.
Saint Peter and the Rooster, 17th-century oil painting on canvas, stretched on a new frame. The painting likely was part of a larger composition depicting the repentance of the weeping Saint Peter.

Italian school, 17th century. From a dark background, Saint Peter emerges, remorseful for his betrayal, but contrite, as evidenced by his hand on his chest. The saint is depicted with brown hair and beard, dressed in a brown cloak draped over a white tunic.

The apostle's gaze is directed upward, towards the light of faith, which overcomes darkness and illuminates his face with divine mercy and compassion. To the right of the saint, there is a profile of a rooster. The rooster is one of the iconographic attributes of Saint Peter the Apostle, emphasizing the episode in which he denied Jesus and his subsequent repentance. It is worth noting that Saint Peter and the rooster are looking in the same direction, towards the light.

The artwork is in good condition, with restorations consistent with its age.
