Today we are pleased to present to you a unique antique silver plate.
Round silver plate with a multi-tiered edge from the Kingdom of Sardinia, pre-1872. features an intricate edge divided into twelve large, rounded scales that create a wavy profile.
Each scale has a delicately embossed, quadrangular, geometric decoration in the center, within which there is a four-petal floral motif (quatrefoil). The interplay of smooth, polished surfaces of the scale with the matte texture of engraved squares creates a pleasing contrast of light. The center of the plate is smooth and slightly concave.
The item is distinguished by a reflective surface that mirrors its surroundings. Near the inner edge of the rim, in the upper part, three assay marks are visible: the second assay mark used in the Kingdom of Sardinia between 1824–1872 (a cross of Saint Maurice and Saint Lazarus topped with a royal crown, enclosed in an oval); the goldsmith's initials “M.G.” (also in an oval, accompanied by a small shrub motif); and a third, unidentified mark. It bears typical signs of age, confirming its authenticity, such as tiny oxidation spots (including a small green stain in the center), minor scratches, and a natural patina highlighting the engraved details.
