We are pleased to present to you an incredible Italian headrest from the mid-20th century!

This double headboard made of painted wood with a shell and scroll motifs from the 1950s is handcrafted from fir wood. It features a soft, curved profile line, measuring 170 cm in height and 180 cm in width, ideal for a double bed, with two side posts and a perforated sculptural relief emphasizing the polychrome decoration.

this headboard in very warm colors, featuring the blue of the central shell, ochre, Neapolitan red, light green, and delicate pastel shades. 

In Greek and Roman mythology, shells symbolized prosperity, rebirth, and indicated the source of fertility. As an ornamental motif, the shell appears during the Mannerism period, an evolution of decorative art linked to the development of grotesque, which later evolved into Baroque, especially in France, where this decorative motif is associated with Roccaille.
