Original bronze sculpture of Marshal Ney by Giuseppe Grandi

Original bronze sculpture of Marshal Ney by Giuseppe Grandi

Today, we would like to offer you a very unique sculpture of a French marshal who fought in defense of the French Revolution.

Bronze sculpture "Marshal Ney" by Giuseppe Grandie. Patinated, cast bronze sculpture depicting Napoleon's Marshal Ney. Made in Italy, this multi-element, carefully crafted and patinated sculpture dates from the first half of the 20th century and bears the inscription "NEY" on the front of the base.

The original from 1874, which inspired several foundries, is housed in the Museum of Modern Art in Milan. The original is a work by sculptor Giuseppe Grandie (1843–1894), one of the leading representatives of the Lombard scapigliatura movement.

Marshal Ney stands, dressed in a uniform, with a saber at his left hip. He wears a long coat with military epaulettes. On his head, he has a fez. Moreover, the general appears to be contemplative. His pose does not truly reflect his indomitable nature. He looks rather pensive and captured in an intimate moment.

The sculpture has some casting flaws but is generally in good condition.

The subject is one of Giuseppe Grandie's most famous sculptures, thanks to its success through numerous casts, mainly posthumous, now located in various collections (including the Musée d'Orsay).
