The beginnings of the game of poker can be found in the German game of Pochen, popular in the fifteenth century. In the following centuries it reached France, where it was called Poque and peaked popularity much later, in a different version, under the name Poker and was played on steamboats travelling along the river Mississippi. We will never find out if the creators of this game were basing their concepts on any older games, or did they create it from scratch. Some researchers state, that the Chinese have been playing poker as early as in the year 900 AD, others believe that the Indian game ganjifa is the origin of poker.

• It is a game made for two people, where each of them has 15 pawns, which have to be moved through triangular-shaped fields, called “lines”. The winner is the person, whose pawns leave the board first. Backgammon is now a national game for the people of Georgia, Armenia, Turkey and Arabian countries. The English name of this game comes from the seventeenth century and probably comes from the word gamen, meaning “game”. It has been also speculated that the name comes from the fact, that the backgammon board was often placed on the back of a chessboard.

This game was known in ancient times! In Europe it was played mainly in the Mediterranean (also in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia Minor).
