Gilt bronze table clock, early 19th century

Gilt bronze table clock, early 19th century

Today we are pleased to present to you a unique antique salon clock, made of gilded bronze.

This product is a charming standing clock in the French Empire style. The arch-shaped case, flanked by two putti—one sitting with a book and the other standing with one foot resting on a book, focused on playing a musical instrument.

The clock’s base, with two rectangular steps and a decorative frieze featuring floral motifs in the Empire style, adds elegance to the piece, while the beaded semi-circular feet provide good stability.

The white enamel dial with Roman numerals set against an artificial bookshelf topped with laurel wreaths and plant garlands, although decorated with a small fissure, is framed by an exquisite leaf motif. The mask covering the dial serves as a decorative element, enriching the clock’s design, making it a valuable object not only as a timekeeping instrument but also as an Empire-style artifact.

This intricately carved, gilded bronze library clock is perfect for a desk but also suitable for a shelf due to its small size. Originating from France, dating to the early 19th century, it is functional, with beautiful original mercury gilding. It strikes the full hour and half-hour. The pendulum has a silk thread and a key.
