We are pleased to present to you the brown Gladiator statue by a master from the 19th century.

The figure is inspired by Hellenistic sculpture depicting the "Dying Rooster", the famous Dying Gala marble from the Capitoline Museums in Rome. The work is signed by an unknown artist, as the signature on the edge of the base is illegible; see the photographic detail. It depicts a defeated warrior, a gladiator with bloody stab wounds on one leg and the chest, kneeling on the ground, holding a broken-blade sword in one hand and a shield in the other.

The cast has a dark green patina; it originates from the second half of the 19th century and is in excellent condition. Under the base, there is a label from a Venetian shop. This Italian sculpture was popular as a travel souvenir and collector's item during the Grand Tour.
