Today we are pleased to offer you a beautiful silver matchbox.
This matchbox holder by Birmingham Silver, 1861-62, features a rectangular shape with beveled corners and is entirely decorated with floral engravings on a machined background. In the center, on a circular plaque framed by an engraved geometric garland, are the initials AWL written in cursive.

The slightly convex and engraved edge also features machined striking edges at the bottom for lighting matches and a hinge on one side for opening the lid. At the top, there is a small stamped ring for attaching a chain to a waistcoat.

The inner edge bears hallmark features: Lion Passant for 925/000 silver assay, the Birmingham Assay Office anchor mark, the date letter “m” indicating the year 1861/62, and a maker’s mark, which can no longer be read. This antique English silver matchbox holder is in excellent condition, free of scratches and dents.
